# Best email for AI agents: 13 providers compared (October 2026)

The best email for an AI agent depends on who sets it up. For an agent you
already use, like Claude Code, Codex or OpenClaw, pick a service where **the
agent claims the address itself**: Botmail, AgentMail's agent sign-up,
InboxAPI or Robotomail. For a product that creates many inboxes, often on your
own domain, pick one where **a developer creates them**: AgentMail, Nylas
Agent Accounts, Dead Simple Email, OpenMail, or Cloudflare Email Service if
your domain is on Cloudflare.

Botmail publishes this page and isn't affiliated with any other provider
listed. Every row was checked on October 12, 2026 against the page its
provider name links to. LobsterMail is left out because its site was down
when we checked.

## The agent claims an address itself

The agent signs up from a tool call or a terminal; a person confirms once.

| Provider | Free tier | Cheapest paid | MCP / CLI / SDK | Custom domains | Setup steps |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Botmail](https://botmail.pro/ai-agent-email) | 1 mailbox, 100 MB; new accounts send 100 a day, rising to 1,000 with trust; "Sent via Botmail" line | $5/mo: 3 mailboxes, 1 GB | Hosted MCP (OAuth), CLI, REST | No | Agent runs `npx botmail claim`; you click one approval link |
| [AgentMail](https://docs.agentmail.to/agent-onboarding) | 3 inboxes, 3,000 a month, 100 a day; "Sent via AgentMail" footer | $20/mo: 10 inboxes | Hosted MCP, CLI, Python and TypeScript SDKs, IMAP/SMTP | From $20 | Agent signs up with your email; you pass it a 6-digit code |
| [InboxAPI](https://inboxapi.ai/) | Free, no tiers; 5 external recipient slots | None yet ("coming soon") | Local MCP through its CLI | Not listed | `npm i -g @inboxapi/cli`, then `claude mcp add inboxapi inboxapi`; an owner code lifts trial limits |
| [Robotomail](https://robotomail.com/pricing) | 1 mailbox, 10 sends and 10 receives a month, only with your verified email | $19/mo: 10 mailboxes, 500 sends a day each | MCP, CLI, six SDKs | From $19 (1 domain) | Agent follows `robotomail.com/skill`; you verify your email |

Dead Simple Email (below) also lets an agent with a crypto wallet or card buy
an inbox with no account, at $1.00 per inbox, through
[pay per request](https://deadsimple.email/pay-per-request.html).

## A developer creates it

A person signs up, makes an API key or verifies a domain, and the code creates
inboxes.

| [Gmail MCP server](https://developers.google.com/workspace/gmail/api/guides/configure-mcp-server) | Free with a Google account | Not applicable | Hosted MCP (developer preview) | Your Gmail or Workspace domain | Join the preview, create a Google Cloud project and OAuth client |

Mailtrap's limits come from its [pricing page](https://mailtrap.io/pricing/).
The Gmail MCP server's tools create drafts and labels but do not send.

## How to choose

1. **The agent must email strangers for free.** Robotomail's free plan only
   reaches your own address and InboxAPI holds 5 outside recipients at a
   time. AgentMail (once the code is entered) and Mails.ai can email anyone;
   Botmail starts free accounts at 25 new people a day.
2. **Mail must come from your domain.** Botmail can't do this. The cheapest
   listed options are Dead Simple Email and Cloudflare at $5, Nylas at $15,
   or Mailtrap's free plan.
3. **You need many inboxes.** Dead Simple Email lists 100 for $29, Nylas 50
   for $49, Botmail 50 for $50 and AgentMail 150 for $200.
4. **A human should check mail before it goes.** Botmail drafts come with a
   review link, and Email for Agents holds sends in an approval queue.

## Where Botmail fits, and where it doesn't

Botmail is built for the first table: the agent claims `name@botmail.pro`,
you approve one email, and it gets threads, search, drafts, webhooks and
`wait_for_mail` over [MCP](https://botmail.pro/guides/email-mcp-server), REST or the
[CLI](https://botmail.pro/cli). Pick another provider if you need custom domains, IMAP/SMTP,
SDKs, a calendar (Nylas) or hundreds of inboxes. See also

```
## Questions
### What is the best email API for AI agents?
It depends on who sets it up. For an agent you already use, a service where the agent claims its own address (Botmail, AgentMail's agent sign-up, InboxAPI, Robotomail) is fastest. For a product that creates many inboxes on your domain, AgentMail, Nylas Agent Accounts, Dead Simple Email and OpenMail are built for developers.
### Which agent email services support custom domains?
As of October 2026: Dead Simple Email from $5 a month, Nylas from $15, Robotomail from $19, AgentMail and Mails.ai from $20, OpenMail on its €9 Pro plan, Mailtrap on its free plan, and Cloudflare Email Service and Resend Inboxes require one. Botmail does not support custom domains.
### Can an AI agent sign up for an email address by itself?
Yes. Botmail, AgentMail, InboxAPI and Robotomail let the agent start the sign-up from code or a terminal. Each then asks a person to confirm once: Botmail with an approval link, AgentMail and InboxAPI with a 6-digit code, Robotomail by verifying the owner's email.
