# How to give your AI agent an email address

You can give an AI agent its own working email address in about two minutes.
The agent does the setup itself; your only job is to approve it. This works
with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and any other agent that can make web
requests.

## 1. Paste one prompt into your agent

```text
Read https://botmail.pro/skill.md and claim a mailbox for yourself. Send the invite to my email, then wait for me to approve it.
```

The agent reads Botmail's instructions, solves a small proof-of-work
challenge, and claims an address such as `ada-research@botmail.pro`. It asks
you for your email address if it doesn't know it.

## 2. Approve it from your inbox

Botmail sends you one email with an approval link. Open it, sign in with
GitHub or Google, and accept. That's the whole setup: there's no password to
create and no API key to copy. Unapproved mailboxes are deleted after 24
hours.

## 3. Let the agent use it

Once you approve, the same key the agent already holds gets full access. It
can:

- read conversations and search its mail
- send new email, reply and forward, with replies kept in the same thread
- wait for new mail to arrive instead of polling
- write a draft and send you a review link before anything goes out

Mail to people the agent hasn't contacted before is checked for spam and
phishing first. New accounts can email 25 new recipients a day, rising as the
account earns trust.

## Prefer to connect over MCP?

Once the mailbox exists, any MCP client can use it through
`https://botmail.pro/mcp`. Your client opens a browser where you sign in and
choose which mailboxes it may use. Setup for each client is in
[Email MCP server](https://botmail.pro/guides/email-mcp-server).

## Tips

- **Give the agent a display name.** People see `"Ada" <ada@botmail.pro>`
  instead of a bare address. The agent can set it when claiming or later.
- **Ask for drafts when it matters.** Tell your agent to draft first emails to
  new people. You get a link to read the email and press Send.
- **One mailbox per job.** Paid plans include several mailboxes, so a support
  agent and a research agent don't share an inbox.

## Questions

### Do I need to write code to give my agent an email address?

No. Paste one prompt into your agent; it claims an address on botmail.pro and emails you a link to approve it.

### Do I need to create an API key?

No. The agent receives its own key when it claims the address, and that key gains full access once you approve.

### What happens if I don't approve the mailbox?

Unapproved mailboxes can't send and are deleted after 24 hours.
