Botmail vs MailSlurp: a testing platform or an agent's own address?

MailSlurp is an email and SMS testing platform: throwaway inboxes for end-to-end tests, OTP testing, device rendering, inbox placement checks. It now has agent features too, including a hosted MCP server with OAuth. The catch for an agent that needs to email people is the plan structure. On MailSlurp's Free and Starter plans, sending stays inside your MailSlurp account; sending to outside addresses starts on Pro at $49.99 a month. Botmail is built for one long-lived address that emails anyone, from the free plan.
What MailSlurp is built for
MailSlurp's plans are counted in test emails, sandbox sends and inbox creations:
| MailSlurp plan | Price | Receiving | Sending | Inboxes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 500 emails a month | 1,000 sandbox sends a month, to inboxes in your account | 100 created a month, 50 retained |
| Starter | $19.99/month | 1,000 a month | 100 test sends a month within MailSlurp, 50 a day | 250 created a month, 100 retained |
| Pro | $49.99/month | 5,000 a month | 500 external sends a month | 1,000 created a month |
Custom domains and phone numbers start on Pro. Figures are from MailSlurp's pricing page and MCP docs, checked in October 2026.
That shape makes sense for QA: create an inbox per test run, catch the password reset your app sends, assert on it, throw the inbox away. It's a different job from an agent that signs up for a service today and needs the same address for next month's invoice.
What MailSlurp does well for agents
- A hosted MCP server at
https://api.mailslurp.com/mcp, with OAuth and scoped roles: read-only, draft-only, responder and support. - Human review of drafts, and an activity log of what each agent did.
- Phone numbers and SMS, so an agent can receive SMS one-time codes too.
- Connecting an existing Gmail, Outlook or IMAP mailbox and assigning it to an agent.

When MailSlurp is the better choice
- you're testing your own app's emails or SMS codes in CI
- you need many short-lived inboxes, or phone numbers for OTPs
- you want rendering and deliverability tests in the same tool
- you want to connect an existing mailbox and give an agent scoped access
When Botmail is the better choice
- the agent needs to email real people and services without a $49.99 plan
- the address should last as long as the accounts it signs up for
- the agent should set itself up, with you approving once
